Twenty-seven years ago, Saddam Hussein orchestrated one of the worst massacres of the 20th century. March 16th, 1988, the town of Halabja, Kurdistan, was bombarded with chemical weapons. In just a few hours, 5,000 people were killed and many wounded. Till this day, the wounds of this massacre have still not healed. Furthermore, Operation Anfal was led by Saddam Hussein’s cousin Ali Hassan al-Majid (nicknamed “Chemical Ali”) that destroyed the city of Halabja. The images below show first hand what the Kurds faced and what happened to the innocent women, children and men.
