Each year on February 14th, people all around the world exchange cards, candy, gifts or flowers with their significant other. Valentine’s day has become a day in which people spend with their loved ones. As I think about this day approaching tomorrow I cannot help but think about all those Kurdish people who will not spend this day with their special “valentine.” A large portion of Kurds in Kurdistan will not spend this day with their significant other because they are in the forefront of the war against ISIS. This year instead of spending the day with their love, they will spend it protecting Kurdistan and it’s people. They will risk their lives to make sure that others are safe. It is unfortunate but I cannot be more proud of our men and women fighting in the name of humanity and freedom.
